Antigonish Farmers Market Families

Spread the love

by Michael Dickson

Hello everyone! Its been a busy two weeks for the Antigonish Farmers Market. Last weekend involved a lot of work leading into the market for your favorite market manager, but made for a fun work week overall.  Busy weeks take up a lot of my time which results in a not-so-exciting summer week for my family. Consequently, I came up with a pretty good topic for this week’s blog. This week we get focus on some of the Antigonish Farmers Market’s families. We are a family friendly market that has a little bit of something for every member of the family. Why is that? Because the market is made up of some pretty amazing families. So lets talk about a few of them:

Martin’s Fine Bakery

Martin and Gabrielle are all about family, with a strong moral code, a passion for high quality delicious breads, sweets, pizza and the most amazing cakes you will ever eat. It is hard to not think of them in an extremely positive light. Not only are they very knowledgeable in the art of making delicious treats and breads, they also have a passion for training the up-and-comers as they have been bringing in a breathe of youth that greatly encourages succession planning in a way that anyone would be proud of.

The Cornect Family

How can we talk about family at the market without mentioning the Cornect’s? We see them at the market every week. Margaret and Amanda are huge supporters of the market. Margaret for more reasons than I can fit in, does so much for the market: from being a board member and a vendor, to a knowledge source for the Market Manager. Her dedication is unwavering. Amanda is not only a vendor at the market, but she is also a behind the scenes worker that helps manage the financial health of the market completely on her own time! Of course we cannot forget about Ben who most don’t get to see, but he leaves his finger prints all over the Market; with homemade book cases that are used by many vendor, to the farm work he does to take care of the bees. Of course last but not least we cannot forget about Crispin. Crispin is the owner of the Simply Ducky business, which contributions can be found all over the market; from business cards, to advertising signage that is all over the barn and road ways, to maintenance of the Antigonish Farmer’s Market website. Crispin’s charitable donations are large in cost and time. Thank you all for everything you do!

The Broussard’s Family: The Wild Flour Bakery and the Rusty Kicker

As I rack my brain with thoughts of what I can write about the Broussard’s that will do just cause to them, it is hard to filter it down because the family friendly feeling that they inspire in the market is overwhelming. As a true example of how close a family can be, they bring a positive attitude to the market every single week and a commitment to deliciousness that is unparalleled. From fun chats about the things that are going on in the world to why cupcakes are not just a tasty treat but are filled with a love that cannot be matched. They are a shining example of commitment to family. The life skills that are getting handed down are exceptional. Lets not get to absorbed in the cupcakes though because you cannot have dessert without the main course and you will be hard pressed to find a burrito that comes even close to the deliciousness of the ones they make. With a little something for everybody, a trip to the market is not complete until you stop by and sample a little piece of heaven that the Broussard’s bring to the market.

All About Family Fundraiser

I don’t know about everyone else but my day starts with breakfast at the kitchen table with my wife and two daughters before we all get into the tasks of the day. With that being said the Antigonish Farmers Market is hosting a Farmers Breakfast at the Barn on Thursday, August 2nd from 6:30am to 9:00am. We are offering Casey’s homemade famous pancakes with your choice of a homemade blueberry sauce, delicious maple syrup, amazing honey butter, sausages, baked beans, toast, hot and cold beverages! All profits from this fundraiser will go towards the building of the new Antigonish Farmers Market Building.

Well folks that wraps up my writing, I hope you enjoy what you read and that you continue to support the Antigonish Farmers Market and our wonderful vendors. My family and I certainly enjoy feeling so welcomed into this awesome environment. Remember to check us out online at www.antigonishfarmersmarket.ca, on Facebook: Antigonish Farmers Market Association and Instagram: @Antigonishfarmersmarket.

Thank you for your continued support of the Market and our Vendors!
