Hello everyone! It’s been a wild two weeks since my last blog post, but I was very excited to write this one as a lot has happened since. We had our very first Wednesday evening market on August 1st from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The farmer’s breakfast was extremely successful in raising money for our new Agricultural Center.
This summer is certainly going by very quickly. That being said let’s chat about some pretty cool success stories from away that are now Antigonish Local.
Spicy Kitchen
How can you talk success without bringing up Ranjith from the Spicy Kitchen. Ranjith is a regular to the market with a world of amazing food. My personal favorite is his butter chicken which is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Ranjith’s business has expanded so much due to his overwhelming commitment to producing products of the highest quality. Everything is made from scratch, to his extremely high standard. If you are looking for something spicy and delicious then the Spicy Kitchen is the vendor for you.
Authentic Mom’s Recipe
If you are a regular to our market then you have no doubt noticed the unique products they bring to the market; from delicious Kimchi, to authentic Thai sauce, to some of the best homemade onion rings you will ever get a chance to snack on. They have something for everyone. Well worth stopping by to say hello, meet their family and young children and learn about their culture.
Martin’s Fine Bakery
It’s hard to talk about local without mentioning Martin and Gabi. They are two very special people who are dedicated to bringing the very best from away to Antigonish Local. With sweets that are exceptional, to fresh baked breads, to amazing pizza and tasty sandwiches. No visit to the market is complete without going over to this wonderful vendor and picking up a little something.
Al Zhouri Desserts
Do you have a sweet tooth? Looking for something that is different? Well look no further as the tasty treats that Al Zhouri brings to the market are sure to delight everyone no matter the age or taste buds. Truly unique desserts. If you stop by the market and don’t pick up something here then you are really missing out.
Peace by Chocolate
What is local to you, to me local is roots. Which is why I want to talk about the amazing people at Peace By Chocolate. I have debated over and over what exactly local is for a long time and, to me, you can’t get much more local than Peace by Chocolate. The positives that the family has brought, not only to the market, but to Antigonish as a whole is amazing. Truly a success story that cannot be under-told. We are so proud of where this Syrian family has come from to where they have gotten to and how far they will continue to go. If you have a moment to stop by and hear their story, do it. They embody exactly what local should be and we are blessed to have them at the Antigonish Farmers Market.
At this time I would like to thank everyone that has continued to support the market. Please remember that we will be having a market this coming Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. On Tuesday we will be publishing a list of vendors that will be attending the market, as well as the menus for the attending food vendors. This information will also be available on our Facebook page Antigonish Farmers Market Association, Instagram @Antigonishfarmersmarket and on our website www.antigonishfarmersmarket.ca. Remember we are in full swing of our fundraising campaign for our new Agricultural Center. Every dollar counts and Thank you everyone for your support!
Looking forward to seeing you all this Wednesday and the following Saturday at the market.
Happy shopping folks!
